Jog falls, an amazements hidden beneath the green covers of Sahyadri ranges of Karnataka. Jog Falls in the highest water falls in India.

The journey from “Gokarna” , is through the national high way No.17 towards South till reaching Honavar. Jog falls are about 57 Km east from Honavar. Almost 40 Kms journey from Honovar is through dense forests. In order to enjoy the journey to the fullest one should travel slowly catching the glimpse of live streams and other pleasant scenes, Sahyadri offers for its visiors. Quite often peacock, deers and langurs appear in groups. There are a few “view points”enroute to catch the view of the beautiful Sharavathi river flowing out of the misty mountains. If you are travelling savouring the entire beauty of the nature, it could probably take a three and half hours journey before you reach the Jog falls.
Karnataka govt. has build view points for the visitors . The place have few buildings and rest houses build inline with the nature . There are a few points railed and fenced for the travellers to have a complete view of the falls from all possible angles. The locals call the falls by the names “Gadagudi” and “Gersopa”.
Four falls make the Jog falls. Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer. Mightiest of all is the “Raja”. The one which falls through several rock catchments, emerging with a roar is known as “Roarer.” The one which resemble the stream of white smoke let out by rocket is called the “Rocket.” And finally the “Rani” which flows down gently.

The falls are more attractive during the rainy season. The mist, rain and sunlight create a variety of dimensions to the scenes . Though the falls look close to each other from the view point, they are much farther than one would assume. The “Raja” falls at a distance of 2 Kms from “Rani.”
For a complete feel one has to take a closer look of the falls. The falls are away from the hawkers and tourist guides at the view point. The fall is almost 2 km from the view point through a much dangerous path. However a parking is available there. There is an old British banglow of the renaissance age and a building half complete. Raja falls from below a huge rock. One can climb the rock and look down to watch the fall below your toes. View from the rock is a spine chilling experience. Other falls are visible from this rock, all falling in great pride and into such an incredible depth below.
The “Linganomokki dam” reduces the water flow during the summer season and when it is not raining . So monsoon it is always the best to visit the place. Bon Voyage.
